4:00 pm
good afternoon, everybody, i'm larry beil. >> i'm cheryl jengs we have breaking news now in the north bay. sky 7 is live over benicia. firefighters are on the scene of a brush fire burning near some homes and businesses. >> this fire has grown to at least 20 acres so far no, evacuations have been ordered we've seen flames jump lake herman road onto the other side.
4:01 pm
>> we're told crews responded at 2:20 this afternoon and several engine companies have gotten there. it's north we're told but not near enough to endanger it. it's put up a lot of smoke and been very, very windy outside. >> skroining us on the fire is cal fire captain amy head. thanks for joining us. how close is this fire to homes or businesses? >> it appears it's burning north of benicia, like you said. heading north of there. i don't have an actual number of how many homes are located right in that area. >> are you looking at potential evacuations from anything? the shot we have now shows open land is there anything particularly threatened at this moment? >> i haven't heard latest from our air attacker or commander
4:02 pm
on this threat but looking like you said at area is a open area. i don't anticipate evacuations. >> captain we're looking at sky 7 shot of this. it looks like it's burning really quickly and is next to what might be a access road. >> you have a better view of it. it looks as though it jumped lake herman road and there are driveways of some sort in that might be what you're looking at. i am not there, looking at it now. you have a definite better view than i do. >> all right. captain head thank you for your time. we'll check back with you later on in the afternoon as conditions warrant. you can see smoke being blown around and let's check in with spencer christian. >> let me start by taking a look at windy condition as
4:03 pm
cross the bay area, you can see strong gusts just about everywhere. 35 miles per hour gusts in fairfield now. so winldy conditions now, let's close in near the fire. the fire is burning north of the town of benicia up in the hills and terrain so the reports we have now official reports, temperatures near the fire is 67 degrees. so we don't have excessively dry conditions. wind is the one weather factor that is a complicated factor, winds at 28 miles per hour with gusts up to 24 miles per hour. so wind could continue to be a complicating factor going to be breezy, and windy around the bay area this afternoon.
